 🤖 Microsoft's secret AI chip

Microsoft has been secretly working on a new artificial intelligence chip called 'Athena,' which could be a game changer in the world of AI. The chip is designed to train large language models like ChatGPT, and it has the potential to significantly lower AI application costs and improve negotiation power with competitors like Nvidia.

Currently being tested by a select group of Microsoft and OpenAI employees, Athena is expected to be available for internal use and OpenAI by next year. However, it's unclear whether Azure customers will have access to it.

This move shows that Microsoft is serious about AI and is willing to invest significant resources in it. With Athena, the company could not only reduce costs but also stay competitive with other top players in the AI space. It's certainly a development to watch closely, and we can't wait to see what other AI breakthroughs Microsoft has in store for us.

 🥊Reddit wants payback

It's payback time! Reddit, the online community forum that has long been a favorite of internet users, is now demanding compensation for all the data that has been scraped from its site. Over the years, companies like Google and OpenAI have used Reddit's free APIs to collect a treasure trove of user-generated content to train their language models.

While Reddit's founders have been happy to share their content with these big players, they are now asking for a piece of the pie. After all, why should these companies be able to profit from the community's content without giving back to the community itself?

It's a bold move, but one that seems entirely reasonable. Reddit is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to tap into the collective knowledge and experiences of millions of people worldwide. As such, it's only fair that the platform's creators are compensated for their efforts.

Crawling Reddit, generating value and not returning any of that value to our users is something we have a problem with. It’s a good time for us to tighten things up.

📊 ChatGPT vs. the stock market

As Twitter users continue to ask the burning question of whether AI can make them money, the answer remains "not yet." According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, AI is not yet capable of providing reliable investment advice, mainly because pricing and market data are limited compared to the vast amount of data used to train language models like ChatGPT. Additionally, the unpredictable nature of markets, driven by emotions, real-time decisions, and political climates, poses a challenge for AI algorithms.

Despite these challenges, there is some hope for AI in the investment world. Two academic papers have highlighted ChatGPT's capabilities in gauging market sentiment.

  • The first paper found that ChatGPT did well in predicting market movement based on Federal Reserve statements, and it performed even better after being trained on historical examples.

  • The second paper prompted ChatGPT to decipher corporate news headlines, and its interpretations were spot on and correlated with the stock's subsequent moves.

While AI may not outperform Warren Buffett anytime soon, it is emerging as a valuable tool for quants and retail investors to parse through information.

THE CODE IDEA OF THE DAY

A University 👨‍💻

Problem: Traditional universities are often rigid in their teaching methods and fail to cater to individual student needs, resulting in lower academic achievement and dissatisfaction. Students may also struggle with time management and motivation, leading to suboptimal performance.

Solution: A digital university that uses cutting-edge AI technology to provide each student with their own personalized learning agent that adapts to their learning style and needs. Personalized learning, flexibility, enhanced academic performance, and improved student satisfaction.
