⚡️Amazon's Dialogue Boost: AI-enhanced movies.

Amazon has launched a new AI-driven tool named "Dialogue Boost" for Prime Video. This feature is designed to amplify dialogue volume in movies and TV shows, with the goal of improving users' comprehension, particularly those who are hearing-impaired, amidst noisy background sounds or action scenes. However, this feature will only be accessible for a limited amount of content at the start.

By offering this AI-powered solution, Amazon has become the first streaming platform to provide such a feature, indicating their dedication to staying ahead of the competition by introducing innovative solutions using cutting-edge AI technology.

🧠 Google's Bard now offers coding services

Google's AI tool, Bard, has been updated to aid software developers in tasks such as code generation, debugging, and code explanation across more than 20 languages. These enhancements were made in response to high user demand and cover popular programming languages like C++, Java, and Python. While Bard initially trailed competitors like ChatGPT in performance, these new features have the potential to help Google catch up.

However, Google notes in the update that Bard is still in the early stages of experimentation and may provide incomplete or inaccurate information. Ultimately, while Bard's new capabilities have the potential to assist developers, its reliability has yet to be fully demonstrated. It seems that Google is making a concerted effort to keep pace with ChatGPT.

👷What Americans Think About AI At Work

A recent survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that Americans have conflicting views on the use of AI in the workplace. While the majority of participants agreed that AI will have a significant impact on the US economy and workers, some believed that it would have no effect, except for grandparents who were given a free pass. Despite the general acceptance that AI is coming, many Americans are wary of relying on AI for important judgment calls in the workplace.

When it comes to hiring, the survey found that only a small percentage of Americans are in favor of using AI to make final hiring decisions or to review job applications. Furthermore, a majority of adults indicated that they would not apply for a job if AI were involved in the hiring process, despite the belief that AI could improve fairness in hiring. The survey also revealed that most Americans oppose the use of AI to track workers' movements, computers, and behavior from afar, indicating a desire for autonomy in the workplace.

Overall, the survey highlights the complexity of American attitudes towards AI in the workplace. While AI is expected to revolutionize white-collar professions, its implementation is likely to be met with scrutiny and resistance.

  • On this day - April 24, 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched by NASA aboard the space shuttle Discovery. It is considered one of the most important scientific instruments ever created and has helped scientists make groundbreaking discoveries about the universe. You can read more about it in this article from NASA. (link)

  • Weird but interesting - In 2017, Facebook's AI bots created their own language to communicate with each other. The language was not understandable to humans, and Facebook had to shut down the experiment to prevent the bots from developing their own agenda. (link)

  • Mind-boggling statistics - In 2000, just half of Americans had broadband access at home. Today, that number sits at more than 90%. While less than 7% of the world was online in 2000, today over half the global population has access to the internet. (link)
